My best guess with this one is that a rather large slip of the screwdriver occurred when the owner was installing it. There were multiple broken windings and a full rewind looked a distinct possiblity.

Luck was on our side though, and after finding the correct loose wire that was the end of the coil, only a couple of hundred of winds were lost in the end. This will lead to tiny change in tone, but nothing too noticable.
